Anthony Spencer, Robert C. ByrdIn only his third active game after transferring from Vista del Lago High in California, Robert C. Byrd senior Anthony Spencer has crafted a short but certain list of instant classics. In his RCB debut on September 22nd against Elkins, Spencer stepped from the shadows and immediately made an impact by hitting paydirt four times in limited action. The performance left Byrd fans across the countryside wondering if offensive wizard Bryan Fisher had wielded his wand in the football labs high atop One Eagle Way and brewed the little known newcomer from a magic concoction of potion and pigskin. By now, Spencer’s path to Clarksburg has been well documented, as have his electrifying exploits as the newest weapon in an already lethal Robert C. Byrd offensive arsenal. If they haven’t, they almost certainly will be following his standout effort against Nicholas County Friday night.
On Byrd’s second play from scrimmage Spencer opened the scoring with a 48-yard TD jaunt that set the tone for a dominant RCBHS win over the 12th ranked Grizzlies. The signature play of Spencer’s incredible performance came with Byrd holding an 18-0 edge in the third period when he burst up the alley on a sweep before bouncing it outside and outracing the Nicholas County defense 80 yards for a back breaking score. On the evening, the dynamic RCB standout racked up 171 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns on only 12 carries for an eye-popping 14 yard average per tote. To top off his incredible showing, Spencer grabbed a 4th quarter punt and dashed 47 yards through the NCHS coverage unit for his 4th TD of the game and his 8th of the season. After only three games in a Flying Eagles’ uniform, Spencer has already racked up nearly 300 yards rushing on a mere 33 carries.
For his outstanding performance in Robert C. Byrd’s impressive win over Nicholas County, Anthony Spencer is THEGAMEBREAKER.NET’s Player of the Week for week seven.
