Nick Stewart’s record performance at South Harrison Friday night might have startled some, but if those in attendance Friday night were in fact surprised they shouldn’t have been that way for long. You could almost sense it coming during the first play of action when the Colts’ senior signal caller rolled right from the pocket and lofted a perfect strike to a wide open Michael Hunter who rambled 70 yards inside the South Harrison five-yard line to set up the first of several PBHS scores. From that point forward, PBHS coach Curtis Bodkins continued to use Stewart’s right arm as the weapon with which the Colts would enforce their will upon the Hawks. Stewart directed a Philip Barbour attack that racked up 539 total yards and scored 56 points in the runaway victory. Just how impressive is a 56-point outburst against South Harrison at Gary Barnette Field? To lend some perspective to the Colts’ incredible offensive achievement, note that in the nine regular season games the Hawks had played at home since winning a 33-30 shootout over Liberty in October of 2004 (all wins), the SHHS defense had surrendered an average of merely nine points per outing. The flawless performance by Stewart and Co. changed that in a hurry.
On the night, the PBHS field general connected on 13-of-19 attempts for 367 yards and 4 touchdowns against no picks. The effort was nearly perfect on all fronts as it marked the 4th time in 5 games that Stewart has eclipsed the 200-yard passing mark, and proved to be his first game of the year without throwing an interception. To round out his brilliant offensive barrage Stewart added another 21 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
