Preston Musgrave
Notre Dame
Nearly 1,000 yards through the air to go with 13 touchdown passes. More than 100 points accounted for. Quite a season, right? Amazingly, for Notre Dame junior quarterback Preston Musgrave, those numbers haven’t come over the course of an entire season, or even half of a season. In 2006, Musgrave has posted those numbers in merely 4 games.

Friday night against Gilmer County, the quadruple-threat Musgrave (Passer, Rusher, Kicker, Defender) added yet another wrinkle to his already diverse repertoire: Pass receiver. Notre Dame’s first points against GCHS came when Preston hauled in a 4-yard touchdown from his younger brother, Harrison Musgrave. The touchdown marks one of 17 that Preston has accounted for on the young season. For those scoring at home, through four games the Notre Dame standout has thrown for 13 touchdowns, rushed for 2, returned 1 interception for a score and hauled in the pass Friday night for his first receiving TD on the year. By the way, Musgrave also serves as the kicker for coach Sam Alvaro’s squad, a position from which he has connected on multiple PATs this season, including 4 during the victory over Gilmer County.

All told against the Titans, Musgrave connected on 14-of-21 passes for 310 yards and four touchdowns and registered an additional 31 yards on the ground to lead the undefeated Irish to a 42-19 win.

For his outstanding performance in guiding Notre Dame to a 42-19 victory, Preston Musgrave is THEGAMEBREAKER.NET’s Player of the Week, marking the second time in 2006 that the Irish standout has grabbed this honor.
