Carter DeVault
East Fairmont
If you love offensive football then you must have been smiling like the butcher’s dog over the exciting slate of high school action last Friday night. Week three presented plenty of standout individual performances in the area, including ten 100-yard rushers, four 200-yard passers, and no fewer than thirteen players who reached the endzone multiple times. In Rachel, we even saw an Robert C. Byrd school record go down against North Marion as Jordan Griffin racked up 211 yards receiving to break a mark previously set in 2004 against – as fate would have it – North Marion.

Though impressive outings were certainly in abundance Friday night, one stood above the fray…that of East Fairmont quarterback Carter DeVault. After tossing three touchdowns and racking up 285 yards from scrimmage in week two against University (156 Passing, 129 Rushing) to garner Associated Press Player of the Week accolades, DeVault had to be wondering: What in the world would he have to do to take home THEGAMEBREAKER.NET’S weekly honor as well??? Friday night at East-West Stadium, DeVault found out.

The junior catalyst behind Coach Bill Haddox’s high-flying offensive attack led EFHS to an impressive victory over a previously unbeaten Nicholas County squad by racking up more than 330 total yards and accounting for six scores – five of which came in the first half of action. For the game, DeVault threw for a career-high 285 yards and five touchdowns and added another 56 yards and a touchdown on the ground. For his outstanding performance in helping lead East Fairmont to a 47-0 win, Carter DeVault is THEGAMEBREAKER.NET’s third Player of the Week in 2006.
