Luke Hyre - Buckhannon-Upshur
Last week against the Lewis County Minutemen, Buckhannon-Upshur signal caller Luke Hyre enjoyed the performance of a lifetime. After a number of strong outings this season that nearly landed him in the Hot Corner but left him just short in the Honorable Mention column, Hyre put forth a demonstration Friday night in Weston that could not be denied. The Bucs’ senior field general was nearly flawless, connecting on 11-of-12 pass attempts for 205 yards and two touchdowns while adding another score on a 1-yard quarterback sneak. Along the way, Hyre became the all-time career passing yardage leader at Buckhannon-Upshur High School, eclipsing a mark previously held by Bucs’ gridiron legend Pat Jack.

Kyle Allard - Fairmont Senior
Allard was dynamic in leading Fairmont Senior to their first victory over the University Hawks since 1997. The Polar Bears’ elusive quarterback set the tone early when he scrambled to buy time on a 4th down attempt on FSHS’ first possession of the game before hooking up with a wide open Ben Kettering for a 28-yard score. On the night Allard connected on 15-of-21 pass attempts for 182 yards and three touchdowns, adding another 51 yards on the ground. The exclamation point to Allard’s performance came in the form of his 82-yard interception return for a score in the 4th quarter.

Keith Currence - Tygarts Valley
After a long month of futility and tough breaks, it all finally came together for Tygarts Valley Friday night in Mill Creek as the Bulldogs grabbed their first win of the year, a convincing 25-0 decision over Gilmer County. As has been the case for most of the season, TVHS coach Russ Collett leaned on the versatile talents of tailback Keith Currence to pace his offense. Currence responded with another strong performance, grinding out over 200 yards on the ground for the home-standing Bulldogs who pulled off their first win since last season’s Class A playoffs.

Jon Reed - Buckhannon-Upshur
Reed led a Buccaneer’s ground game that racked up 235 yards in a decisive road win over Lewis County last week. The Buckhannon-Upshur senior exploded for 144 yards and three touchdowns on only 9 carries for a remarkable 16 yard average per carry. Reed’s performance nearly doubled his yardage total for the season (now just under 300 yards) and marked the first time he reached the endzone since the Bucs’ opener at Preston County. The hard-running BUHS back added also posted 16 yards receiving in the game.

Jordan Griffin - Robert C. Byrd
In a heartbreaking loss at Bridgeport, Griffin was once again the offensive catalyst behind coach Bryan Fisher’s RCB passing game. The always dependable junior wideout snared 11 passes for 144 yards. His effort included an acrobatic Lynn Swann-esque diving catch of a tipped ball for a 50 yard gain in the second quarter that came on a gadget play thrown by Byrd running back Anthony Spencer. For the season, Griffin is building quite a resume. Not only has he already caught 27 balls for more than 700 yards and 6 touchdowns, but he also snapped the RCB school record for single-game receiving yardage in a September 8th win over North Marion.
