Josh Poling - Buckhannon-Upshur
With their backs to the wall heading into a match-up with traditional conference rival North Marion Friday night, Buckhannon-Upshur leaned on the talents of sophomore dynamo Josh Poling to get them over the hump. Against the Huskies, the newcomer Poling erupted for 186 yards rushing and a pair of scores, the most rousing of which was a 95-yard effort in the first half that brought the BUHS faithful to their feet. The impressive outing marked Poling’s second effort in as many weeks of more 150 yards on the ground (156 against University in Week 3), and gives the Bucs’ standout more than 400 rushing yards on the year.

Zach Losh - Robert C. Byrd
By land and by air RCB sophomore sensation Zach Losh cut through the Philip Barbour defense all night Friday. Losh churned out 126 yards rushing and a touchdown on 17 carries (7.4 yard average) in helping guide the Eagles to a convincing 34-14 win over the previously unbeaten Colts. Losh played an equally vital role in Byrd’s passing game, hauling in 3 catches for 78 yards. His performance included a pair of touchdown receptions of 52 and 11 yards in the first quarter to lift RCB to the early lead. On the year, Losh has racked up nearly 500 yards from scrimmage as Byrd has enjoyed a 3-0 start.

Kyle Allard - Fairmont Senior
Allard, one of the area’s most explosive dual-threat quarterbacks, continued his offensive wizardry in a decisive win over Preston County Saturday night. The Polar Bear signal caller fired 4 touchdown passes and threw for 215 yards, marking the third time in four games he has eclipsed the 200-yard mark. The FSHS singal caller’s most dynamic effort on the night, however, didn’t make its way into the stat book. In the second period the fleet-footed Allard’s rolled far to his right on a pass play before tucking the ball and cutting back all the way across the field and past a wave of defenders on a 40-yard jaunt before being hauled down inside the Preston ten only to see the play nullified by a holding call.

Rocky Shaffer - Lewis County
Shifty and elusive, but tougher than nails. That description paints the most accurate picture of the effort put forth by Lewis County running back Rocky Shaffer not only against Lincoln Friday night, but all year long. Against the Cougars, Shaffer racked up 119 tough yards on 25 carries and accounted for all three LCHS touchdowns in a hard-fought 27-18 loss. The junior Minuteman also demonstrated his versatility by serving as an effective safety valve in the Lewis County passing game where quarterback Wade Stansberry connected with him 4 times for another 46 yards in the air. The effort propelled Shaffer past the 350-yard rushing mark on the young season.

Justin Shaw - Notre Dame
It’s becoming more difficult each week to keep tabs on all of the offensive weapons filling the line-up for coach Sam Alvaro’s Notre Dame offense. In a blowout win over Gilmer County Friday night, Shaw hauled in 8 catches for 166 yards and was on the receiving end of two of the game’s biggest plays. In the first period Shaw outraced the Titan defense on a 64-yard touchdown reception from Irish quarterback Preston Musgrave. Later in the first half Shaw struck again on a gamebreaking 63-yard catch and run for another Notre Dame score.
